In Defense of the Right to Bear Arms

Guns have been on my mind lately. For starters, it's Deer Season, and Dan's been hunting for the past few days, as well as other friends of mine (you know who you are.) Second, I've watched several rather violet, gun-oriented movies in the past few days--Men in Black, Triple X (the Vin Diesel one), and parts of Shooter with Mark Walhberg. Third and most importantly, I got to shoot a few magazines on our new pistol yesterday. That, I have to say, was pretty awesome. And after that, I sighted in some of Dad's other guns. His Savage, with the scope, was fun, and so was the M15, but the most fun was his enormous old, Persian Royal Guard Mauser, complete with bayonet! I just love those old bolt-actions. He also has a tiny Marlin .22, and that was pretty cool too. The pistol, by the way, is a Ruger .22/.45--a .22 in .45 configuration. It's quiet with little recoil, and out of a clip of ten, I got eight shots on the black of a target at 25 yards. Pretty sweet.

But anyway, back to guns. First of all, I have to say that I dislike the second Amendment of the Constitution. I mean, "The Right to Bear Arms" is pretty clear, but I really don't think the Founding Fathers foresaw that anyone would ever want to take guns away from Americans. It's not about hunting, as my Dad told me last night, it's about arming yourself against tyranny. The Libs can take any guns I might acquire in the future (And I WILL get some!) out of my cold dead hands.

Well, I'm in favor of the Second Amendment so far as it sometimes seems to be the only thing standing between gun rights and oblivion, and between gun control and oblivion. What I mean is that the founding fathers did not even consider that someone, someday might want to take away the arms of the people, and so they didn't right an amendment dealing specifically with attempts to DISARM Americans. The same goes for Abortion, in my opinion.
